others found in isolated spots with long sandy stretches dotted with sand dunes. Most Cypriot beaches offer a variety of water sports such as scuba diving, snorkelling and sailing.

Ayia Napa is well known for the beautiful blue flag Nissi Beach. Visitors are attracted to this beach for its soft golden sands and calm waters which are ideal for families and couple alike. There is a tiny island just 100 metres from the beach which visitors can easily reach by foot through the shallow waters. Water sports such as windsurfing, water-skiing and pedalos are available, along with bungee jumping and beach volleyball.

Fig Tree Bay and Sirena Bay are two popular Protaras beaches which have clear shallow waters, making them ideal for children. The larger Fig Tree Bay is a beautiful golden sandy beach lined with hotels, restaurants, cafes and shops. There are a variety of water sports on offer including water-skiing, jet-skiing, parasailing and lots of different inflatable rides for the whole family to enjoy. The more secluded and sheltered beach at Konnos Bay is located about a mile from Ayia Napa on the rugged coastline of Cavo Greco.

Fig Tree Bay

The fine beaches of Larnaca include the famous shallow water Finikoudes Beach which is lined with beautiful palm trees, restaurants and bars.

Half way between Limassol and Paphos, close to Aphrodite’s birthplace, is the wonderful Pissouri Bay. Probably the best known Cyprus beach is Petra Tou Romiou (Aphrodite Beach) near Paphos. It is believed that this is where Aphrodite rose from the sea. Paphos has many beautiful beaches including Coral Bay which is a golden sandy beach sitting between two headlands.

Akamas Peninsula are the beaches at Latchi and Polis. A must to visit on your direct holidays to Cyprus is Lara Beach where the endangered loggerhead and green turtles nest and lay their eggs.

Cyprus is located to the south of Turkey, just southeast of Greece, and has a mixed population of Turks and Greeks. The national languages reflects this with both Turkish and Greek regularly used. Alagadi Beach is a sandy beach with a rocky sea floor. The water here is shallow for quite a distance out, making it great for swimming. Green and Loggerhead turtles come up to the beach and lay eggs during the egg-laying season. During this time some of the beach is closed off to tourists.

Escape Beach
This beach has been carefully maintained and for this reason it is a favourite resort for families and singles alike. There is a fee to get into Escape Beach. There are all sorts of water sports available here as well as volleyball. The nightlife is great here and there are several outdoors discos with European DJ’s.

Ladies’ Mile Beach
This is a golden sandy beach with shallow, clear and calm waters. This beach is very safe for children and has lots of watersports.

This is one of the most beautiful beaches in Cyprus. High above the beach there is a restored Roman Amphitheater. From this vantage point you can watch the boats and water sports. The sea can be very rough at times but the beaches are gentle and favourable for swimmers. This beach can get a little crowded at times due to its popularity.

Pissouri Beach
This is a sandy shingle beach that is located in the village of Pissouri. There are plenty of watersports on offer and there is also a scuba diving school. This is a beach that is rarely over crowded except on the weekends.

Located between Larnaca and Limassol, this is a shallow beach that is great for small children to play and swim. There is also a white rocks area that is beautiful with great fishing and sailing.

Nissi Beach
This is a beach located in the calm Nissi Bay, which provides shelter from the wind. This beautiful beach has magnificent views as well as great cafes, pubs, and watersports.

This beach is aptly named because of a lone Fig Tree that grows just up from the Beach. This is a very popular beach in the Protaras area. Tourists can find this beach difficult to locate as there are no restaurants or hotels lining the beach. Look for the Salparo Hotel to the north and the Nausicaa Beach Hotel Apartments to the south.
